I know everybody and their blogger sister has chimed in about Girls and, honestly, not that I would ever ask people to stop talking but people wear their hatred/love of the show as a sort of badge that honestly really resembles whatever they hate about the show/what the show makes fun of…. Not sure that came out right. Like, I’m not sure the show is making fun of anything, though I do think it has a point-of-view about the superiority of NYC and the transformative nature of its rigors. It’s not making fun of the Midwest though, because it acknowledges that most New Yorkers come from there in the first place. Anyway, that’s not really my point. My point is, I didn’t really feel the need to talk about it because everyone else’s chatter has been kind of annoying and- OK, now I’ve just annoyed myself. Who fucking cares what I think anyway? Breathe. I can do this.

I love this show. I think it’s pretty fucking brilliantly observed. I want to hold almost every person and just sit with them for a while and tell them that it does not get any better. Which is HORRIBLE! I can’t believe I just wrote that But, I’m old enough that I was actually at the cinema to see Party Girl instead of it merely holding an iconic place in my heart like Breakfast at Tiffany’s or Network, and, you know what?People are still pretty scary and often treat your heart like monkey meat. Rent is always a bitch. You never really get over the desire to manage people’s perception of you. I mean, I think you ultimately get sort of exhausted so a lot of these worries begin to have less of a discernible impact, but you still care. And, I’m so completely impressed with Lena Dunham. I mean, what the fuck? It’s enough of a seriously huge effort to just make the shit that she makes. But, to be able to convince someone to let you do it in the first place? Wow.
